PCBB Food For Thought #4: The Sundance Effect
- The Color of the Sea Green = One employee or $0-75 per hour
- Aquamarine = Two employees required or $75-170 per hour
- Tiger's Blood Red = Three employees or $170-250 per hour
- Hot Hot Pink = Four employees or $250+ per hour
I went through and deleted the actual figures from the chart. But you can easily see from this makeshift heat map how much business picks up for us during the ten days of the Sundance Film Festival. Even though we sit a good ten miles from the majority of the action, we still see an increase in business from our regulars, tourists, and even less-regular locals that might head our way to escape the crowds.
These numbers ignore the huge increase in wholesale business that we see each year. When combined with the national exposure the town receives and subsequent increase in non-Sundance tourism, it's easy to justify renting out our town to a bunch of film dorks for ten days a year. Plus, it makes Park City that much more fun when we get it back.
